Marie Boedeker, 85, of Malta Bend, MO, died Tuesday, January 8, 2013, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013, at First Christian Church in Marshall, with Rev. Colby Smith officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born June 25, 1927, in Marshall, she was the daughter of the late William Clark White and Frances Pauline Slocum White. She was a graduate of Marshall High School and Missouri Valley College. On February 11, 1956, she married Harrell Boedeker who survives of the home. She shared her musical gifts and leadership skills with the community for most of her life. She was music director for 53 years at First Christian Church in Marshall where she played the organ, directed the choirs and oversaw a well-remembered Christmas pageant. She played for hundreds of weddings, funerals and local events over the years. She was the music teacher at Malta Bend School for 35 years and, before that, taught at Breckenridge School for three years. She was a longtime member of Delta Kappa Gamma. She helped organize the Marshall Community Chorus and was its first director until she retired in 2000. She lived in Malta Bend for 56 years and helped organize the town’s sesquicentennial. She was a member of the Malta Bend Legion Auxiliary. In the auxiliary, she was Missouri Department president for 1985-86 and national chaplain for 1991-92. She was the music director at Missouri Girls State for 31 years and music director at Girls Nation for 11 years.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Hal Boedeker of Orlando, Fla and Tim Boedeker of Marshall; one sister, Dorothy White of Marshall; one brother, William White of St. Charles, MO; and many nieces and nephews.
